Many congrats goes out to Dr Parameswaran Iyer (MND Research Registrar) who was awarded the 2012 Lundbeck Neuroscience Bursary in support of his project titled 'The exploration of biomarkers into MND and MND/FTD'.
Parames presented his project to a panel of experts - overcoming stiff competition to secure the €20,000 award.

The launch of the Dublin Brain Bank took place on Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008. Professor Michael Farrell, Consultant Neuropathologist in Beaumont Hospital, is responsible for the day to day running of the Dublin Brain Bank. To quote Professor Farrell: "By providing researchers and clinicians with much needed brain tissue, the network offers potential for improvements in diagnosis and treatment of patients. It will also play a significant role in informing and supporting those wishing to make a post mortem donation and their families. It is through their courage and generosity that will ultimately lead to the benefit of others in the future."
The group are launching a new inititive to increase awareness about the importance of post mortem donation.

Many congrats goes out to our very own Prof. Orla Hardiman who was awarded The 2011 Forbes Norris Award - from the 22nd International Alliance of ALS/MND
Associations - for compassion and love of humanity in the study and management of MND. Prof Hardiman was recognised for her scientific contributions to our understanding of MND.

The IICN's Registrar's Prize in Neuroscience, took place today' Friday, November 11th, 2011 at the Radisson Blu St. Helen's Hotel, Stillorgan Road, Dublin.
RMN would like to congrat Dr. Susan Byrne who won the overall prize for her engaging presentation -
"A new gene in ALS: clinical phenotype for ALS patients who are gene positive."

Breaking News: Researchers discovered a new gene which is now known to be the cause of rare familial forms of MND/ALS. Going forward the identification of Chromosome 9p21- which we now know is linked to ALS-FTD forms of ALS will have a significant impact on our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying typical ALS.
