The current research section is now up dated to reflect current activity from the group.
Off note all research carried out by the Irish MND Research Group stems from the The Irish Register of MND which is in existence since 1995.
FYI an easy way to nagivate to a topic of your choice is to use the search option on the bottom of our home page. Although, if you have any questions we are always contactable

When families are exposed to MND for the first time they are provided with lots of information - some of which will not be absorbed straight away.
The Irish MND Research Group have developed a MND Patient information booklet informing people about the background, clinical symptoms and research surrounding MND. The booklet should act as a tool where clear questions and answers are provided and can be read at the readers leisure.
We also have a FAQ's section on our website.

Special thanks goes out to Dr. Marwa Elamin who is the main contributor to the Patient information leaflet.

In the most recent issue of
The Lancet Neurology , Susan Byrne and colleagues
1 report clinical descriptions of patients with mutations in
C9orf72, a gene recently identified as being associated with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and dementia.
2—4 These findings suggest that mutations in
C9orf72 could be the most commonly identified cause of familial ALS and frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
Attached is a link to an editoral by Peter M Andersen and a link to the paper. Well done Susan and to all involved.
