It is widely accepted that Ireland is in a prime position to explore causative genes for many conditions - MND included. Prof Brendan Loftus of University College Dublin’s Conway Institute is the chief investigator for the attached project and has collaborated with many experts in the field of genetics, Prof Orla Hardiman included. Genome sequencing is vital to our understanding of various conditions and has many benefits one of which is predicting the response an individual may have to medication.
The UCD team, used DNA from an anonymous Irish male with a confirmed Irish ancestry of three generations with 300,000 NEW variations in genome steps been discovered.
